Job Duties/Scope Of Work
HMIS is seeking a qualified biologist/environmental scientist to support the Noxious Weed Management Program on the Hanford Site.
The Noxious Weed Management Program leads the management of noxious weeds in an effective way that balances eradication with the preservation of valuable biological resources on the Hanford Site.
The position will lead the Noxious Weed Management Program for the Hanford Site.
Key And Essential Job Duties Of This Position Include - Responsible for implementing an effective integrated noxious weed management program.
- Implementing DOE-HFO guidance documents such as the Biological Resources Management Plan and other tiered management plans relating to noxious weed management.
- The successful candidate will plan and implement monitoring and reporting of noxious weed populations on the Hanford Site.
- This position is also responsible for providing expertise and guidance in prioritizing noxious weed treatment, and will monitor, track, and report on the effectiveness of those treatments over time using collected data.
- Position will be responsible for research, study design, monitoring, and report writing.
- This position will have knowledge of federal and state regulatory guidance relating to noxious weed management and will ensure noxious weed treatment follows applicable laws and regulations.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for coordination among regulatory agencies, state and federal wildlife agencies, and research institutions to strengthen Hanford Site biological resource management and protection.
Basic Qualifications ENTRY LEVEL:
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or Natural Science related field with 2 years environmental experience.
- Knowledge of noxious weeds and management techniques.
- Strong ability and demonstrated ability to identify plants to the species level.
- Experience designing and implementing scientific ecological studies and/or monitoring plans.
- Knowledge of Integrated Vegetation Management.
- Familiarity with data analysis and use of statistics.
- Ability to write technical documents in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience applying results of scientific studies to decision making.
- Experience with environmental data management.
- Experience planning and executing field studies with supporting field staff.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with other organizations to plan and implement work tasks.
- Must have extensive understanding of ecosystem function and management plans for protection of important resources.
- Ability to communicate study results to stakeholders and the public via written documents and oral
presentations.
- Willingness/ability to conduct field work year-round, including hiking up to 10 miles in remote
monitoring locations.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work successfully independently and as part of a team of scientists.
Intermediate Level Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or Natural Science related field with 5-9 years experience.
- Demonstrated experience in noxious weeds and Integrated Vegetation Management.
