Division of Liberal Studies

Campus Location: Variable (Lynn, Danvers, off-site)

SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $57,013.00 - $62,000.00. Actual salary is determined by education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement, which is non-negotiable. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position is a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the English Department. The faculty member will participate in the teaching, effective delivery, and further development and enhancement of departmental offerings in addition to serving on college committees and advising students.

The successful candidate must have the ability to relate to a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as physical and learning abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Teach fifteen credits of English Composition each semester.
  • Plan and implement instruction for a variety of student groups, learning styles, and abilities:
    • Composition 101 and Composition 102
      • 101: Emphasis on developing skills of writing, reading, analytical thinking, and research
      • 102: Emphasis is on analytical and researched writing based on a range of texts. Classic and contemporary authors will be studied.
    • Composition 101 w/ co-requisite Composition Seminar - FFL 015 (ALP)
      • 015: Emphasis on the ability to write a clear, unified and grammatically correct essay, while also breaking down, analyzing and extending material which is related to the Composition 101 course
    • Early College
  • Travel to high school campuses to instruct Early College students.
  • Maintain relationships and communication with Early College partners.
  • Serve with other full-time faculty as a resource person in the English Department for part-time faculty and for the college at large.
  • Assist in curriculum and program development, including program review.
  • Attend required department and college meetings, and participate in general faculty functions related to the mission and vision of the College.
  • Provide academic advising to students according to the MCCC workload agreement.
  • Serve on college-wide and ad-hoc committees.
  • Initiate and/or participate in special projects and grants.
  • Utilize the College-designated LMS and other multimedia technology effectively to enhance classroom learning.
  • Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops,
  • seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in discipline and in the classroom.
  • Foster student success across the college's diverse student body and address equity gaps through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.

Job Requirements:
  • An earned Master's degree (M.A.) or higher in English or Rhetoric/Composition (no MFA or M.Ed)
  • Experience teaching composition to a variety of student learners in a community college setting
  • Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diversity of community college students, including but not limited to academic preparation, socioeconomic level, age, religion, ethnicity and culture, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability.
  • Travel between NSCC campuses and to/from high school campuses
  • Finalists may be required to provide an in-person teaching demonstration.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.


PREFERENCES:

  • Experience teaching high school students, outside of or within a college setting.
