Next filing cut-oofs are at 5:00 pm on: 2/19/24, 3/11/24 (final) The class of Water Quality Control Systems Supervisor is the first-level supervisory class in this series, and, under direction, is responsible for supervising the maintenance of complex process instrumentation and control systems incorporating pneumatic, electric, and electronic components, analog and digital networks, analysis instruments, computer control equipment including computers and computer peripherals and software and telemetry equipment. Responsibilities require direct personal involvement in the solution of unusual or difficult maintenance problems. Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
- Electrical and electronic theory and practice as applied to process instrumentation and control systems
- Principles of chemistry and physics
- The architecture and operation of computer systems
- The inspection, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of process instrumentation and control equipment
- The principles of preventative maintenance and maintenance documentation
- The operation of instrumentation shops
- The principles of personnel management and supervision
Ability to - Direct the work of subordinate personnel
- Read and interpret plans, schematics, process control flow diagrams, and system/network drawings
- Detail drawings and wiring diagrams
- Provide direct assistance in the solution of unusual or difficult maintenance problems involving analog and computer equipment
- Perform some original circuit design work as required to implement minor analog and computer equipment modifications
- Analyze and evaluate maintenance records to establish preventative maintenance schedules and spare part inventories
- Anticipate material and equipment needs
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
- Establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships with those contacted in the workplace
- Read, write, and speak the English language at a level required for successful job performance
- Respond to emergency calls
- Workday, swing, or graveyard shifts.
Employment Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Either: Two years of full-time experience in the class of Senior Water Quality Control Systems Technician in Sacramento County service. Or: 1. An AA or AS technology degree dealing with instrumentation, computers, or electronics or 30 college level semester units in instrumentation, computers, or electronics.
And 2. Four years of full-time journey level experience in the design and/or maintenance of process instrumentation and control equipment, at least three years of which shall have dealt with the maintenance of computer equipment.
Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

- Ability to work while standing on a ladder.
- Ability to work while standing on a platform elevated over twenty (20) feet above ground.
- Ability to lift 50 pound objects.
- Ability to work outside under all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in heavy traffic.
- Ability to distinguish colors used in electric wiring color coding.

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%) All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination. This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job. All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
