What you'll do...:

The Vice President of Corporate Communications is a strategic leader responsible for shaping and protecting the company's reputation and driving strategic communications that support the company's overall goals and foster a collaborative and empowered corporate culture.

This role reports to the Chief Marketing & Experience Officer and is part of the Marketing & Experience Leadership Team and will partner closely with this team and across the enterprise to maintain and build our trusted, corporate reputation.

This role serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO and the senior leadership team, providing expert counsel on strategic communications, reputation, crisis management, and how we position our brand and corporate priorities across the evolving media landscape. The ideal candidate will be a visionary communicator with a proven track record of developing and executing integrated communications strategies that enhance corporate reputation, drive business objectives, and leverage emerging technologies like AI to optimize efficiency. They will have a passion for leading and developing their team and working in partnership with associates across the enterprise.

Day to day, you’ll…

Strategic Advisory & Executive Counsel:

  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on all matters related to corporate communications, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide strategic counsel on complex issues, including crisis communications, strategic partnerships and regulatory matters.
  • Define and execute C suite and VP corporate visibility plans.
  • Develop and deliver high-level presentations and briefings for executive leadership.

Corporate Reputation Management:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive strategies to enhance and protect the company's reputation among key stakeholders, including investors, customers, employees, and the media.
  • Monitor and analyze public perception and proactively address potential reputational risks.

Issues & Crisis Preparedness:

  • Manage and mitigate crisis situations, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Maintain and upkeep issues & crisis protocols, scenario plans and key stakeholders.
  • Synthesize and analyze key narratives across earned media, social conversation and industry analyst commentary.

Internal Communications:

  • Develop and implement internal communications strategies that foster employee engagement, alignment, and understanding of the company's vision and goals.
  • Partner with the field leadership to support internal communications of our 50,000 seasonal field labor associates, in service of onboarding them back into the business and driving business results through the assisted tax preparation experience.
  • Oversee the development and distribution of internal communications materials, including podcasts, newsletters, intranet content, and executive communications.
  • Work to create a consistent and transparent flow of information throughout the organization.

External Communications & Media Relations:

  • Lead the development and execution of external communications strategies to enhance brand visibility and build positive relationships with the media, analysts, and other external stakeholders.
  • Oversee media relations, including press releases, media briefings, and proactive media outreach.
  • Serve as a key spokesperson on behalf of the organization and maintain relationships with key members of the media.
  • Manage relationships with external communications agencies and consultants.
  • Maintain and enhance process and procedures for executive and spokesperson media trainings.
  • Build out a performance measurement approach to define the impact of media on our business and brand performance.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive LinkedIn strategy that reinforces our expertise and trust in the category and transformation.
  • Innovate our communications approach with modern techniques and tools that match the dynamic and evolving media and social landscape.

Integrated Marketing Communications:

  • Collaborate with marketing, customer experience and other departments to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment across all communications channels.
  • Develop and execute corporate communications plans to support integrated marketing communications campaigns that support business objectives as part of our Go To Market approach to support our consumer and small business lines of business.
What you'll bring to the team...:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, business, or related field

Work Experience:

  • Fifteen to twenty (15-20) years' experience; Ten (10) in a leadership role with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Experience in a publicly traded organization
  • Willing to challenge previously held ideas in the interest of progressing and enhancing the brand
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others across business units, functional departments, geographies, and disciplines
  • Innovative, strategic thinking and planning skills with the ability to create and communicate a vision for the future and translate it into clear strategies and specific priorities. Utilize technology and AI enhance communications effectiveness and efficiency
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to operate successfully within a dynamic team culture
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead through influence and network. Highly professional demeanor and diplomatic skills. Ability to create effective partnerships at all levels of the organization

Pay Range Information: The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.
