Job Description

Summary

The selected Social Worker will serves as Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence (DV/IPV) program coordinator. Responsibility include the daily operation of the program - developing policies and procedures for program operation - and preparing reports and statistics for facility - VISN - and national use. They will also manage and control the use of data related to these programs regarding day-to-day functioning and program evaluation.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education: Must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited
  • A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work
  • Verification of the degree can be made by going to to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work
  • Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the Master's Degree level

  • Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator) GS-12 Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level
  • Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment - demonstrating progressively more professional competency
  • Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship - or equivalent supervised professional experience
  • Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
  • Preferred Experience: Those candidates with knowledge about trauma - mental health - and expertise in issues specific to domestic and intimate partner violence - are highly preferred

Duties

  • Provides administrative oversight of the program and administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients
  • Develops and implements information systems to track IPV service activities including visits - referrals - patient demographics - and patient satisfaction
  • Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State - local - and private agencies - and universities
  • Technical assistance provided is based on monitoring activities and program reviews - and the development and analysis of information
  • Performs program analysis - development - review - research - design - and contact work as possible with various agencies (public - DOD - State - etc.)
  • Establishes performance standards for the IPV Program that promote quality and efficiency in service to the Veterans and families in coordination with overall goals of the medical center and national IPV Program
  • Accountable and assigned administrative responsibility for clinical social work program development and effectiveness - to enhance or modify services as needed based on program effectiveness outcome data - performance monitors and patient feedback
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with physicians - nurses - and other disciplines to foster their involvement and care for Veterans experiencing IPV
  • Coordinates educational/training seminar information and disseminates this information to Orlando VA staff
  • Performs work related to the review - monitoring - analysis - planning and assessment of the DV/IPV Program
  • Responsible for key project activities related to the planning - development - and implementation of the project component
  • Independently provides assessment - treatment - and planning for a complex population of patients which reflect the age-specific - psychosocial - and functional needs of the patient (e.g
  • mental health population)
  • Independently work with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric - medical and social problems
  • Possesses advanced knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities - provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals - groups and families
  • Completes referrals for non-Veteran partners - when appropriate - to community resources including legal - law enforcement - domestic-violence specific agencies - shelters - and mental health agencies
  • Knowledge of VA and community resources to meet the complex psychosocial needs of this unique population of patients and to ensure they are referred to relevant community agencies and programs (e.g. - shelters - support groups or legal advocacy)
  • Experience in making Independent and expert rapid assessments and developing crisis management plans
  • Independently identifies and prioritizes high-risk patients and provides case management services
  • Independently provides crisis interventions services - seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint - coordinates family conferences and serves as a liaison when indicated
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of medical and mental health diagnosis - disabilities and treatment procedures
  • This includes acute - chronic and traumatic illness/injuries - common medications and their effects/side effects and medical terminology
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of word-processing - data management - and other computer systems

  • Work Schedule: The primary tour of duty will be M-F 8am to 4:30pm
