Department Summary


The UCLA Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity and the Center for Cancer Prevention and Control Research (CPCR) are co-located within the Center for Health Sciences (CHS) building on the UCLA campus. The UCLA Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity was established in 2004 to address disparities in health status and health care in the United States. The Center conducts community-partnered intervention research in health promotion and disease prevention to mitigate disparities. The CPCR is a joint program of the Fielding School of Public Health and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and leads efforts in population-based cancer prevention and control research. In addition to conducting research, both Centers have a strong focus on community outreach and engagement including conducting education and capacity building activities particularly in Los Angeles and surrounding counties

Position Summary



This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of faculty and staff in the KP/CPCR Centers focused on conducting rigorous research and culturally and linguistically tailored community outreach and education across LAC to reduce disparities and achieve health equity among the diverse residents of the County. The Centers are engaged in multiple projects and initiatives across the spectrum of disease prevention and control with a focus on issues that are community priorities including obesity, tobacco control, cancer prevention and screening, unhealthy alcohol use, vaccine uptake, diverse participation in research and clinical trials. Under general direction and oversight from Center leadership, the Health Equity Project Associate will participate in, and provide support for, community outreach and research activities conducted in the center. The Project Associate will be expected to develop, adapt, and deliver health education programming and curricula to diverse community groups throughout Los Angeles County; support community engaged research projects; disseminate research findings in community settings. This role involves direct program delivery to community members and organizations, as well as direct participation in Center research. Examples of job duties include trainings for community health workers, community agency staff and other community audiences, and dissemination of research and program products in community settings. Additionally, the incumbent will support initiatives aimed at increasing the capacity of community organizations to systematically address health inequities and will aid in the coordination of community-based research and evaluation projects, including studies designed to reduce disparities in chronic disease prevention and control conducted in partnership with safety net clinics and other community-based organizations and the evaluation of projects conducted by community partners. Qualifications



  • 2+ years Experience in delivering health education presentations and adapting materials for diverse audiences (Required)
  • 1+ years Demonstrated experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation (Preferred)
  • 2+ years Research training and experience, including intervention research experience (Preferred)
  • 1+ years Experience in working with safety net clinics, local health departments and/or other community-based organizations. (Preferred)
  • Experience developing online (website) content and social media posts (Preferred)
  • Experience working with PowerPoint and Canva for preparing and delivering presentations (Required)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse community members, university faculty, and staff. (Required)
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills. (Required)
  • Familiarity with research and evaluation principles (Required)
  • Knowledge of health equity principles and frameworks, chronic disease prevention and control research, and human subjects-related research policies (Required)
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and with attention to detail. (Required)
  • Demonstrated written communication and proofreading skills to compose grammatically correct and content appropriate correspondence, proposals, reports, etc., and in editing written material for grammatical correctness. (Required)
  • Demonstrated writing skills to develop correspondence and other program materials in English and Asian Languages or Spanish for a variety of audiences (Preferred)
  • Bilingual (English/Asian Language or English/Spanish) skills (Preferred)
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed. (Required)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload with multiple deadlines. (Required)
  • Access to transportation for travel to community sites around Los Angeles County. (Required)


Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations



  • Master's Degree in public health, behavioral science, or related field, or equivalent combination of undergraduate education and research experience. (Required)
